Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Manicaland province’s Rusape district will hold this year\u2019s edition of the World Aids Day commemorations.<\/p>\n

The annual event, which is held on December 1, serves to raise awareness, commemorate those who have passed on, call for action in the national response to HIV and celebrate successes which have been achieved in accessing HIV prevention and management services.<\/p>\n

Running under the theme, Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Rights, My Responsibility, the national commemorations will be held at Vhengere Stadium, in Rusape.<\/p>\n

The hosting of the event is done on a rotational basis.<\/p>\n

All the 10 provinces in the country have hosted the event since 2000 when the policy was introduced.<\/p>\n

Last year’s World Aids Day commemorations were held at Chinotimba Stadium in Victoria Falls, Matabeleland North province.<\/p>\n

Health and Child Care minister Douglas Mombeshora said the country had achieved tremendous success in response to HIV and was at a critical juncture towards epidemic control and sustainance.<\/p>\n

\u201cLatest global evidence has indicated that Zimbabwe achieved the highest HIV decline between 2010 and 2023 than any other country,\u201d Mombeshora said at a recent National Aids Council media awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also achieved the 95-95-95 targets and our people living with HIV are living longer and improved lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese achievements must be sustained. You will agree with me that it’s not an easy task as we continue to be diverted by various other health challenges, including emergencies such as COVID-19 and Mpox.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said such emergencies were providing the government with critical lessons going forward, particularly the need to build a robust and broad-based health system that emphasises the importance of universal health coverage anchored on a sustainable primary healthcare system.<\/p>\n

World Aids Day commemoration preparations are done through stakeholder meetings at national and provincial levels, which are co-ordinated by NAC and the Health ministry.<\/p>\n
