Mvurwi residents have accused their local authority and legislator for the area, Campion Mugweni, of ignoring their water woes with the town having so far endured two months without supplies, forcing them to resort to a decommissioned borehole which tested positive to cholera last year.<\/p>\n
The residents\u2019 association spokesperson Emmanuel Nkhambala said they tried to engage Mugweni on the problem, but have so far not received any joy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are in serious trouble due to unavailability of water for two months. We tried to engage our MP, but he simply ignored us. Residents have no option, but to use a decommissioned borehole at the market, which tested positive to cholera,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMvurwi council is taking long to address our plight. Health officials have also promised to assist, but they are taking long to rectify the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mugweni told NewsDay that he was aware of the water challenges, but dismissed claims he was refusing to meet residents.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am aware of the water challenges and we are working on it. But I dispute that people have tried to engage me. I have not spoken to anyone about that issue,\u201d
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Council town secretary Sheri Nyakudya also said the local authority was working \u201chard\u201d to mitigate the challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe issue is in our plans and we are working very hard to mitigate the challenges,\u201d she said<\/p>\n
In rural Chiweshe, Mazowe North villagers are also facing the same challenge, with livestock also affected and crops in gardens wilting.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur animals have no drinking water and gardens dried up. It is our wish that our MP engages people who can drill boreholes for us,\u201d a villager, Gift Nyangoni,
