Sunday Chidzambwa has resigned as the Warriors coach with immediate effect.<\/p>\n
Chidzambwa tendered in his resignation to Zifa this afternoon with less than a week before the nation team play Mauritius in the Chan Qualifiers.<\/p>\n
The gaffer who took the reins in December 2017 has been under pressure after failing to bring results at the just ended 2019 Afcon. The team was eliminated in the group stages and registered their worst record at the tournament.<\/p>\n
He had led the team to the finals, finishing as group leaders in the qualifiers and also won the Cosafa Cup in 2018 and in 2017 as an interim coach.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Zifa are yet to make a statement on the issue and confirm the new coach who will guide the Warriors during the Chan qualifiers.<\/p>\n
Chidzambwa\u2019s record as Warriors coach
\nSunday Chidzambwa\u2019s first match as the Warriors\u2019 substantive coach came at the Four-Nations Tournament in Zambia in March 2018, losing to the hosts on penalties.<\/p>\n
His first triumph was at the 2018 Cosafa Cup where he went on to win the trophy.<\/p>\n
The gaffer\u2019s 2019 Afcon qualifying campaign started with a 1-1 draw against Congo Brazzaville and followed up with a shocking 2-1 victory against DRC in Kinshasa.<\/p>\n
The 2-0 win in the return fixture against Congo at National Sports Stadium in March this year sealed the country\u2019s qualification to the finals.<\/p>\n
In May, Chidzambwa used the 2019 Cosafa tournament to prepare for the Afcon finals, finishing the competition in 3rd place. He also managed two draws \u2013 against Nigeria and Tanzania in the follow-up friendlies.<\/p>\n
At Afcon, he lost to Egypt in the first game before a 1-1 draw with Uganda. The 4-0 thrashing at the hands of DRC became the Warriors\u2019 heaviest defeat at the tournament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
