The Confederation Of Zimbabwe Industries through their Matebeleland Chapter has adviced the govt to declare the electricity issue a state of emergency. This they said may just shock or entice the country to find a lasting solution.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Standard Business, The CZI Matebeleland Chapter President said:<\/p>\n
Power is quite a serious challenge at the moment. It has affected us directly and indirectly. Directly in the sense that when there are power cuts, we have no production,<\/p>\n
We just hope that the government will come up with a plan to try and alleviate the power shortage.<\/p>\n
Our thinking is that government should declare this as an emergency.<\/p>\n
When it\u2019s declared as an emergency, all stakeholders can put their heads together and they can come up with measures to respond to the emergency<\/p>\n
He further reiterates that the government must also explore all options on the table, for example, a levy to fundraise the funds needed to finance a lasting power solution. The levy will be used to mobilise resources to help cub situations like these.<\/p>\n
They can come up with probably a levy where people can contribute so that we can have a plan on how we can solve this problem<\/p>\n
We need a long-term plan, but the information that we get from Zesa at the moment is we have challenges at Kariba, the water level is low<\/p>\n
The power crisis has once again made Zimbabwe headline for the wrong reasons internationally. Production has gone down with bakeries threatening that if power cuts continue they may stop production.
