The MDC<\/a> has recalled expelled Chegutu mayor Henry Muchatibaya. Party secretary-general Chalton Hwende on August 20, 2019, wrote to Local Government Minister July Moyo and advised him to remove Muchatibaya from the council.<\/p>\n

The MDC said that Muchatibaya was no longer a member of the MDC after he reportedly lambasted the party ahead of its planned August 16 demonstrations.<\/p>\n

In the run-up to the protests, Muchatibaya was quoted by state media as saying:<\/p>\n

MDC-Alliance is now being run by selfish and power-hungry people who are not working for the people, but for positions.<\/p>\n

These people have their selfish interests and they are using people to push their selfish agendas.<\/p>\n

These Friday demonstrations that are being preached by MDC-Alliance leadership are tools being used to push for positions.<\/p>\n

The party is being run as a project and totally different from when we joined.<\/p>\n
