{"id":13070,"date":"2019-09-01T14:50:05","date_gmt":"2019-09-01T14:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=13070"},"modified":"2019-09-01T14:50:05","modified_gmt":"2019-09-01T14:50:05","slug":"chamisa-changes-his-game-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/chamisa-changes-his-game-plan","title":{"rendered":"Chamisa changes his game-plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/amid-narrowing-options-mdc-vows-more-govt-pressure\"> MDC<\/a> led by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nelsonchamisa?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\">Nelson Chamisa<\/a> has resolved to maintain pressure on President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s government by mobilising its structures through regular rallies after the government blocked its planned protests.<\/p>\n<p>Police last month blocked several MDC protests throughout the country citing security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The MDC\u2019s top leadership met on Friday to restrategise and a communiqu\u00e9 to the party\u2019s structures revealed that the opposition was not backing down on its<br \/>\nconfrontational stance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe party has resolved that the MDC will restore the people\u2019s vote through constitutional and peaceful actions as informed by our goal to \u2018win elections, attain state power through democratic, non-violent, constitutional means, and create a just, equitable, sustainable democratic Zimbabwe\u2019,\u201d wrote MDC secretary-general Chalton Hwende after the party\u2019s national executive committee met in Harare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe party will endeavour to return the country to legitimacy, political stability and economic prosperity as informed by its five stages outlined in our transitional blueprint Reload.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[We will] put political pressure through political advocacy and actions, genuine dialogue, transitional mechanism agreed and put in place, free and fair elections and prosperous<br \/>\nZimbabwe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hwende said the party would roll out rallies throughout the country, which would be cascaded to the village level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ensure that this happens, the party resolved to carry out Reload rallies that will be cascaded down to villages throughout the country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe maintain and sustain our peaceful engagement that will allow all Zimbabweans to participate in their quest to free themselves from the albatross of the current regime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese actions must be people-driven and promote unity on common grievances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chamisa rejected Mnangagwa\u2019s 2018 election victory saying the polls were rigged. The Constitutional Court, however, threw out the opposition leader\u2019s petition challenging the election<br \/>\nresult.<\/p>\n<p>Hwende said the MDC would continue challenging Mnangagwa\u2019s legitimacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe party, motivated by its social democracy ideology, remains concerned by the national legitimacy crisis and will continue to put pressure on the regime to ensure that the<br \/>\nchallenges \u2014 corruption, unemployment, power and fuel shortages, lack of genuine political and institutional reforms, high cost of living and unaffordable prices of basic commodities<br \/>\n\u2014 be dealt with once and for all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has resolved to maintain pressure on President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s government by mobilising its structures through regular rallies after the government blocked its planned protests.
