{"id":14540,"date":"2019-10-07T19:07:31","date_gmt":"2019-10-07T17:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=14540"},"modified":"2019-10-07T19:07:31","modified_gmt":"2019-10-07T17:07:31","slug":"china-floods-zimbabwe-market-with-substandard-solar-panels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/china-floods-zimbabwe-market-with-substandard-solar-panels","title":{"rendered":"China Floods Zimbabwe Market With Substandard Solar Panels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-zimbabwe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zimbabwe<\/a>\u2014Chinese businesses are taking advantage of the rising demand for renewable sources of energy in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-africa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Africa<\/a>\u00a0to dump substandard solar panels on the continent\u2019s market, energy experts say.<\/p>\n<p>In Zimbabwe, Nobert Mataruse, an engineer with the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.herald.co.zw\/fake-products-slow-down-solar-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recently warned\u00a0<\/a>people to be cautious about substandard products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn recent months, we have witnessed an influx of solar products which are not appropriate,\u201d said Mataruse, as cited by the government-owned newspaper The Herald.<\/p>\n<p>Zimbabwe, like many countries in Africa, is facing an energy crisis, and the government is advocating for the wider use of solar energy. But many products entering the market are not meeting local standards.<\/p>\n<p>A vast majority of the currently failing and defective solar panels can be traced back to Chinese manufacturing plants, Tawanda Chitiyo, an energy expert based in Zimbabwe, told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe growth of the local market has resulted in high inflows of PV [photovoltaic] products in the country. That\u2019s resulted in many substandard products finding their way into the market, with negative consequences for consumers,\u201d said Chitiyo, who is also the director of Tawanda Energy.<\/p>\n<p>Tawanda Energy operates in the energy, biofuel, petrochemical, and related industries, utilizing community-scale bio-refineries to produce diesel, natural gas, electricity, and bio-char from sewage sludge and waste plastic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwe\u2014Chinese businesses are taking advantage of the rising demand for renewable sources of energy in\u00a0Africa\u00a0to dump substandard solar panels on the continent\u2019s market, energy experts say.
