{"id":16399,"date":"2019-12-06T19:57:04","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T17:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=16399"},"modified":"2019-12-06T19:57:04","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T17:57:04","slug":"tyson-launches-bid-for-mnangagwa-2023-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/tyson-launches-bid-for-mnangagwa-2023-challenge","title":{"rendered":"Tyson launches bid for Mnangagwa 2023 challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EXILED former cabinet minister and<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ZANU%E2%80%93PF\"> Zanu PF<\/a> top official, Saviour Kasukuwere could be well on course for a surprise bounce back into local politics sooner rather than later after a group of followers Thursday staged a visibility show in Bulawayo to try and drum up support for the once influential politician.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called \u201cTyson Wabantu Movement\u201d project Thursday conducted a mobilisation road show in the second largest city.<\/p>\n<p>Tyson, as he was affectionately known in politics, is former Zanu PF political commissar.<\/p>\n<p>He recently declared his interests towards running for President in the 2023 elections under his Tyson Wabantu movement.<\/p>\n<p>His followers, clad in green t-shirts, moved around in a convoy in the city centre and high-density suburbs mobilising people to join the fledgling project.<\/p>\n<p>The movement\u2019s Mobilisation and Recruitment chairperson, Andifasi Banda said the surprise project was an omnibus which was open to everyone including members of other opposition parties and the ruling <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ZANU%E2%80%93PF\">Zanu PF<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not yet a political party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tyson Wabantu movement is not a political party but it\u2019s a movement which is there to proffer solutions to the country\u2019s current economic and political crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery Zimbabwean including members of existing political parties, churches and members of the civil society organisations are free to join.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Banda said the introduction of the movement received an overwhelming response from residents in Bulawayo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe held our campaign in the city centre as well as the western suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were explaining to the people that Tyson is the right candidate to fix some of the problems which this country is facing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder Tyson\u2019s leadership, there will be no corruption and Bulawayo industries will be functioning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Banda said the movement is also non-tribal, adding that it was set to be rolled out to other provinces in the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Banda said the road show was cleared by police.<\/p>\n<p>During the past months, police have ruthlessly crushed gatherings convened by the main MDC party.<\/p>\n<p>Kasukuwere was kingpin in the failed G40 project which comprised a group of ambitious younger Zanu PF politicians who had put up a spirited bid to do away with war veterans\u2019 octopus control of the ruling party.<\/p>\n<p>However, his popularity as a personal brand is yet to be tested locally.<\/p>\n<p>When he was in Zanu PF, he was once accused of having presidential ambitions and quietly creating an infrastructure to prop up his bid for the country\u2019s top job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EXILED former cabinet minister and Zanu PF top official, Saviour Kasukuwere could be well on course for a surprise bounce back into local politics sooner rather than later after a group of followers Thursday staged a visibility show in Bulawayo to try and drum up support for the once influential politician.
