{"id":18970,"date":"2020-02-03T19:22:01","date_gmt":"2020-02-03T17:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=18970"},"modified":"2020-02-03T19:22:01","modified_gmt":"2020-02-03T17:22:01","slug":"govt-working-to-improve-doctors-conditions-of-service-health-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/govt-working-to-improve-doctors-conditions-of-service-health-minister","title":{"rendered":"Govt Working To Improve Doctors\u2019 Conditions Of Service \u2013 Health Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Health and Child Care minister\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pindula.co.zw\/Obadiah_Moyo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Obadiah Moyo<\/a>\u00a0said that the government is working to improve doctors\u2019 conditions of service.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors handed over a petition to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pindula.co.zw\/Ministry_of_Health_and_Child_Care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ministry of Health and Child Care<\/a>\u00a0on the 4th of December last year and presented it to the parliamentary portfolio committee this Monday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p>The doctors expressed concern over the procurement process for medical equipment saying they also need to be involved. In response, Moyo said:<\/p>\n<div class=\"8NyTXw3X\">\n<ul>\n<li>Government recognises commitment and perseverance of all doctors. My actions are based on serving the interest of the Ministry of Health and Child Care.\n<p>\u2026 availability of water at hospitals it\u2019s the jurisdiction of the local authorities but as a Ministry, we drilled boreholes to ease the problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 on the issue of equipment, currently foreign currency is a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors declared incapacitation (an ability to report for duty due to poor salaries) last year resulting in the near-collapse of Zimbabwe\u2019s public health system.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the doctors eventually agreed to resume their duties after a United Kingdom-based telecoms mogul, Strive Masiyiwa, pledged to pay their salaries and avail transport to and from work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Health and Child Care minister\u00a0Obadiah Moyo\u00a0said that the government is working to improve doctors\u2019 conditions of service.
