As we continue to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history and development of their countries and communities, one such woman is Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, who ventured into the male dominated world of politics at a tender age of fifteen.<\/p>\n
Celebrated under the theme; I am generation equality; realising women\u2019s rights, this year\u2019s theme draws attention to the difference women have made and continue to make in various sectors.
\nNow Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Senator Monica Mutsvangwa who entered the political arena at the tender age of fifteen.<\/p>\n
\u2018I joined the struggle at a very tender age of 15, simply because of the political situation in the country from Mutambara high school in Chimanimani. As women guerrillas in the struggle it was very tough being in the war. We always fought side by side with our male colleagues; it was a tough war,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
Senator Mutsvangwa reckons women deserve a place at the high table, calling for more women to be proactive in taking up key leadership positions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen they ask for women empowerment they are not asking for charity, if they worked so hard before and after independence they certainly have a place, a job to do to make sure that Zimbabwe becomes independent socially, economically and as we are here we continue fighting for opportunities, we need more women up there, thanks to the policies put in place by the zanu pf government, we are happy that there has been affirmative action\u2019
\nAccording to the veteran politician, women need to continue working hard to realise their goals and dreams.<\/p>\n
\u2018Work hard, you need to put a lot of effort in whatever you are doing, be determined set even tougher targets and you will get there,\u201d says Sen Mutsvangwa This year\u2019s celebrations mark the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which is the most progressive roadmap for the empowerment of women and girls worldwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
