ZIMBABWEAN forward David Moyo has been rewarded for his fine contribution in his debut season at Scottish Premiership football side Hamilton Academical after being offered a new one-year contract with the Lanarkshire club.<\/p>\n
With the 25-year-old\u2019s contract set to expire at the end of next season, he has penned a new deal which will keep him with the Accies until the end of the 2021\/2022 campaign.<\/p>\n
Moyo has been hogging the limelight in the Scottish Premiership in recent weeks after scoring a historic winner against Rangers early this month as the Accies won at Ibrox for only the second time in 94 years.<\/p>\n
This was only Moyo\u2019s second goal this season, since arriving at New Douglas Park from English non-league side St Albans City in August on a season-loan deal, with his only other league goal for the club coming when he scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Motherwell on December 29.<\/p>\n
The Zimbabwean forward, who has only made seven starts in the league this season with 12 of his appearances coming as a substitute, was one of the two players handed new contracts by Hamilton Academical together with his strike partner Marios Ogkmpoe.<\/p>\n
Moyo has formed a good partnership with the Greek frontman Ogkmpoe, who has scored six goals in 23 appearances this season.<\/p>\n
Announcing the duo\u2019s contract extensions, Hamilton Academical paid tribute to Moyo and Ogkompoe for playing an important role in the team\u2019s recent revival, which has seen them move six points clear of Hearts at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted to announce the contract extensions for both David Moyo & Marios Ogkmpoe. Both forwards have signed a new deal with the club that will see them play their football at Hamilton until at least 2021. Our past two games have been important victories for the club and both strikers have contributed towards that with David scoring at Ibrox and Marios scoring the late winner against Kilmarnock on Saturday,\u201d Hamilton Academical said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Hamilton Academical head coach Brian Rice said: \u201cI\u2019m absolutely delighted to have both of them commit their future to this football club. Both lads work hard in training and fight for this football club every time they pull on a jersey, so they deserve it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Scottish Premiership was last Monday suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic with eight games left.<\/p>\n
The goal, ultimately, is for Hamilton to preserve their Premiership status in order to begin a seventh season in the top-flight and Moyo reckons they have what it takes to survive relegation despite perceived doubts from the club\u2019s critics.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think people need to put a bit of respect on us! They\u2019ve been here six years now, clearly we\u2019re doing something right. Give us the benefit of the doubt sometimes!\u201d<\/p>\n
