The government is yet to make a decision on whether the June 2020 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) will go ahead as scheduled.<\/p>\n

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Tumisang Thabela said it is premature to talk about postponing the exams while the country is still in lockdown.<\/p>\n

Thabela added that the Ministry will only be able to advise on the way forward at the end of the 21-day lockdown period.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, ZIMSEC said the window to register for the exams has since been extended to accommodate learners who might have been inconvenienced by the government\u2019s stay-at-home orders. It said in a statement:<\/p>\n

Zimsec, like any other institution, is not privy to what will happen after the 21 days of the lockdown but would like its valued stakeholders to know that a window for the registration for November 2020 examinations will be provided when the lockdown is lifted.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe\u2019s schools were closed prematurely after the government banned public gatherings across the country to curb the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n

On 30 March, the government imposed a 21-day national lockdown, to limit movements and, therefore, curtail the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
