{"id":22317,"date":"2020-04-22T21:02:52","date_gmt":"2020-04-22T19:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=22317"},"modified":"2020-04-22T21:02:52","modified_gmt":"2020-04-22T19:02:52","slug":"zim-gets-us5-million-covid-19-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zim-gets-us5-million-covid-19-boost","title":{"rendered":"Zim gets US$5 million Covid-19 boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Global Financing Facility (GFF) on Monday availed<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>US$5 million to Zimbabwe to help the country in the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This was revealed by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube who represented the country during a virtual meeting hosted by the facility on the COVID-19 response.<\/p>\n<p>Posting on his microblogging Twitter account, Prof Ncube said his presentation was poised on emphasizing the need to investment more on the country\u2019s health sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday I participated in a virtual Global Financing Facility meeting on COVID-19 response. I presented Zimbabwe\u2019s approach of \u2018saving lives and saving livelihoods\u2019, which includes social distancing, testing, Personal Protective Equipment needs, isolation centers. GFF allocated US$5 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe countries whose Ministers of Finance participated in today\u2019s (Monday) GFF Investors Group virtual meeting included Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, and Central African Republic. I also made the point that health expenditure is investment, not just a cost,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Global Financing Facility was launched at the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa in July 2015.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is a key financing platform and a broad partnership including GAVI, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, MSD for Mothers, and the Governments of Canada, Norway, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The GFF is currently supporting 36 countries scale up access to comprehensive community and primary health care services and strengthen their health financing systems, which are critical and closely aligned to countries\u2019 needs for effective pandemic preparedness and response.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Global Financing Facility (GFF) on Monday availed\u00a0\u00a0US$5 million to Zimbabwe to help the country in the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).\u00a0 This was revealed by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube who represented the country during a virtual meeting hosted by the facility on the COVID-19 response.
