Zimbabwe\u2019s main opposition bloc has suspended participation in all parliamentary proceedings after the expulsion of four legislators.<\/p>\n
The decision was taken after a breakaway faction of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDC Alliance) allegedly connived with the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) for the dismissal of the four legislators.<\/p>\n
The four expelled legislators are Charlton Hwende, Prosper Mutseyami, Thabitha Khumalo, and Senator Lilian Timveous.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Job Sikhala, acting national chairman of the MDC Alliance, announced the expulsion of three leaders \u2013 Morgen Komichi, Elias Mudzuri, and Douglas Mwonzora \u2013 who were linked to the breakaway faction.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the MDC Alliance, we are disengaging from anything to do with Parliament and from anything to do with Zanu-PF,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, he said a final decision about the withdrawal will be taken after consultations with \u201cthe party’s structures and other interest groups.\u201d<\/p>\n
The MDC Alliance\u2019s breakaway faction is led by one of its former vice presidents, Thokozani Khupe.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the ruling Zanu-PF has refuted allegations that it had a hand in the expulsion of legislators belonging to the MDC Alliance.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, its information director, said the party was not bothered about the opposition bloc\u2019s affairs.<\/p>\n
