THE City of Gweru has received its first batch of returnees to be housed at Gweru Polyclinic College for the mandatory quarantine period gazetted by government in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

The returnees are currently undergoing screening before they are quarantined for the government gazetted period.
\nSome of the returnees commended government for the measures it is taking to reduce the spread of the pandemic while some raised concerns on the way they were deported.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to thank the government for bringing us back home, it is not easy to be in a foreign land especially during such times. I am however not happy by the way we were deported as some of us were taken out of our homes partially naked,\u201d said one of the returnees.<\/p>\n

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Senator Larry Mavhima says the province is ready to take care of the needs of the returnees before they reunite with their families.
\n\u201cWe are currently receiving returnees from other countries like South Africa. I must say the corporate world has come in handy to provide for these people. We will deploy our provincial taskforce to monitor their stay and ensure that they abide by the conditions of the quarantine as provided for by the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The COVID-19 Midlands provincial task force has been on high alert in enforcing the government guidelines on lockdown with the province yet to record a single positive case since the beginning of the pandemic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
