John Steenhuisen, the interim leader of the Democratic Alliance, an opposition party in South Arica, has warmed president Cyril Ramaphosa that if he does not lift the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the citizenry will end it.<\/p>\n
South Africa is currently on level 4 of the lockdown and Steenhuisen says that level 4 as \u201chardly different from Level 5\u201d adding that \u201cin many respects, it is more restrictive, not less.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking on Friday in an online \u201cannouncement of national importance,\u201d the DA leader said that South Africa was no longer dealing with the coronavirus crisis but with the lockdown crisis that has far-reaching economic and humanitarian consequences. He added:<\/p>\n
If there is a good reason for maintaining the lockdown, based on a scientific modelling of this pandemic, then we need to know what this reason is. We need to see government\u2019s modelling.<\/p>\n
If no reason and no modelling can be shared, then we have no choice but to suspect that government is acting irrationally, or deliberately instilling fear to further some other agenda.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
He advised President Ramaphosa to end the lockdown or risk having citizens starting to break the law in the coming days and weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
