The Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) has told the government to reverse the eviction of nurses resident at public health institutions including Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.<\/p>\n
The coalition speaks amid reports that Parirenyatwa was evicting nurses who participated in the ongoing industrial action that is meant to compel the government to pay their salaries in United States dollars at the level they were in 2018 when the local currency was at par with the US dollar.<\/p>\n
The coalition said since over US$300 million was mobilised towards the coronavirus response, the government should change some resources towards improving the welfare and working conditions of health workers.<\/p>\n
Worker\u2019s Rights remain key to development and the vision for a fair and equitable society. The action by Parirenyatwa to pressurise nurses resident on campus to stop industrial action is deplorable and should be reversed immediately!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Health caregivers are also grumbling over poor working conditions while some resigned en masse and joined the private sector citing potential exposure to the coronavirus.<\/p>\n
