{"id":26788,"date":"2020-08-22T18:37:10","date_gmt":"2020-08-22T16:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=26788"},"modified":"2020-08-22T18:37:10","modified_gmt":"2020-08-22T16:37:10","slug":"zctu-sg-speaks-on-the-effects-of-rbzs-abolishment-of-mobile-money-platforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zctu-sg-speaks-on-the-effects-of-rbzs-abolishment-of-mobile-money-platforms","title":{"rendered":"ZCTU SG Speaks On The Effects Of RBZ\u2019s Abolishment Of Mobile Money Platforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions secretary-general Japhet Moyo has expressed concern over the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe\u2019s move to suspend the payment of salaries via mobile money platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Moyo speaks after the RBZ governor, Dr John Mangudya has said \u201cAgents\u2019 mobile money wallets are abolished with immediate effect,\u201d as they were no longer serving any legitimate purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Mangudya also said going forward, any other bulk payment transactions, such as payment of salaries and wages, should be processed through normal banking channels,\u201d not through mobile money platforms as was the case for the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to NewsDay Weekender, Moyo said the Zimbabwean economy is informal, a setup that has resultantly caused many businesses to use mobile money platforms as modes of transactions including the payment of salaries. He added:<\/p>\n<p>The way we have done our business over a period of time, we have just informalised everything, so it was a bit easier to make the payments in that platform.
