The morale in the country has been tinkering on the lower end of the spectrum since the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesouthafrican.com\/zimbabwe-petrol-fuel-protests-deadly-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Zimbabwe protests broke out (opens in a new tab)\">Zimbabwe protests broke out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What fueled protests in Zimbabwe?<\/h2>\n<p>Just two days after he had announced a 67% fuel hike, from about R17 to R45 a litre, Zimbabweans went into revolt, refusing to accept this.<\/p>\n<p>As it was seen during Robert Mugabe\u2019s tyrannic tenure as president, the country\u2019s brutal military force inflicted violence on protesters who were exercising their human right.<\/p>\n<h2>Soldier speaks out about untold stories of Zimbabwe protests<\/h2>\n<p>As reported by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2019\/01\/25\/exclusive-zimbabwe-soldier-says-committed-rape-broke-legs-government\/\">The Telegraph<\/a>, right now, we only know that there have been an estimated 12 fatalities and more than 300 protesters wounded at the hands of the military.<\/p>\n<p>Even more disturbing are the recent revelations made by one of the soldiers about the degree of violence and fear they strategically set on those who revolted against the rule of Mnangagwa.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cOur lieutenant told us to go in and find them. We got our information of where the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) activists live from members of our party, Zanu PF,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The soldier, who\u2019s remained anonymous for obvious reasons, revealed that it was their commander who launched a door-to-door campaign in the poorer areas of Harare, where they would break the legs of those who opposed the ruling party.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The soldier also alleged that they would participate in sexually assaulting at least one victim per household.<\/p>\n<p>He also stated that nothing much has changed since the return of Mnangagwa, and that they were going to continue with their reign of terror until the people learn to \u201crespect authority\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monday, 14 January was the day Zimbabweans realised the fate of their future under the leadership of Zanu-PF\u2019s Emmerson Mnangagwa.
