The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) said the houses that it demolished adjacent to Heroes Acre military base were built illegally.<\/p>\n
Director Army Public Relations Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore on Wednesday told H-Metro that the houses had encroached the cantonment zone neighbouring Belvedere West suburb. He said:<\/p>\n
The houses had been allocated at the army base land and some councillors had corruptly allocated houses.<\/p>\n
We are in liaison with the City of Harare and they\u2019re carrying out eviction from the high court order they attained.<\/p>\n
Harare City Council (HCC) spokesperson Michael Chideme said it is not true that there are evictions going on in various illegal settlements.<\/p>\n
He said HCC did not remove any illegal structures in Belvedere West this week though the residents were occupying land illegally.<\/p>\n
