{"id":2778,"date":"2019-01-30T11:55:14","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T11:55:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=2778"},"modified":"2019-01-30T11:55:14","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T11:55:14","slug":"internet-closure-a-betrayal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/internet-closure-a-betrayal","title":{"rendered":"Internet closure a betrayal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Zimbabwe legal expert Kuda Hove has said telecommunications companies betrayed their customers by failing to challenge government\u2019s recent decision to shut down the Internet during recent protests against fuel price hikes.<span id=\"more-3096224744012253\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at an AMH conversations recently, Hove said telecommunications service providers should have asked their lawyers to look at the statute used by the State to shut down the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an issue where even incompetent lawyers could pick because the directive was issued by someone without the power to do so. They betrayed their customers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-130372949\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent\">\n<p>Hove said government only has the right to shut down the Internet if the country was at war or in a state of emergency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur argument was very simple.
