{"id":2791,"date":"2019-01-30T12:04:42","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T12:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=2791"},"modified":"2019-01-30T12:04:42","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T12:04:42","slug":"government-wont-hesitate-shutting-down-internet-again-mutodi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/government-wont-hesitate-shutting-down-internet-again-mutodi","title":{"rendered":"Government won\u2019t hesitate shutting down Internet again: Mutodi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>INFORMATION, Publicity and Broadcasting Services deputy minister Energy Mutodi yesterday warned that government would not hesitate to shut down the Internet again if need arises and claimed Zimbabweans were primitive and have no understanding of their constitutional rights.<span id=\"more-3096224744012221\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mutodi\u2019s claim came in the face of a recent High Court ruling that outlawed a recent Internet shutdown ordered by government to control flow of information during riots.<\/p>\n<p>The government was roundly criticised for showing dictatorial tendencies by shutting down the Internet .<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-1030671145\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent\">\n<p>However, Mutodi said government would not hesitate to do it again because Zimbabweans are still \u201cbackward\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Internet shutdown was not illegal as such. The only issue that arose is that the person (State Security minister Owen Ncube) who ordered the shutdown is not the rightful person to do that,\u201d Mutodi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment can invoke the Interception of Communications Act because that is part of our law. Whenever the need arises, government will invoke that.<\/p>\n<p>People can criticise all they want, but that is the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople that say Zimbabwe is modern are mistaken. Zimbabwe still has primitive people with primitive minds who don\u2019t understand the meaning of peaceful demonstrations.
