{"id":2905,"date":"2019-02-01T13:39:10","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T13:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=2905"},"modified":"2019-02-01T13:39:10","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T13:39:10","slug":"scores-freed-over-violent-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/scores-freed-over-violent-protests","title":{"rendered":"Scores freed over violent protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amalgamated Rural Teachers\u2019 Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Robson Chere was on Wednesday freed by Goromonzi magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka after spending close to two weeks in remand prison.<\/p>\n<p>Chere, a science teacher at Acturus Mine High School, was arrested together with Moenda Mbela and Chenesai Muchuwa on intimidation charges as defined in section 45(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.<\/p>\n<p>The courts acquitted Chere, who was represented by Douglas Coltart on the basis of inconsistence in the evidence given by State witnesses.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-523506750\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent\">\n<p>According to court papers, on January 16, at around 3pm, the trio went to TN Gold Arcturus Mine main gate.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival, the three allegedly asked security guards manning the gate why they were at work when the country was on a \u201cshutddown\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The trio allegedly threatened to bring a truckload of people to assault those who were working at the mine.<\/p>\n<p>An argument allegedly ensued between the trio and the mine security guards before Chere assaulted one of the guards.<\/p>\n<p>George Manhidza represented the State.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-284794126\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent-250\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amalgamated Rural Teachers\u2019 Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Robson Chere was on Wednesday freed by Goromonzi magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka after spending close to two weeks in remand prison.
