The Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry has pledged government\u2019s commitment to alleviating climate change challenges through the smart conservation agricultural programme Pfumvudza\/Intwasa.<\/p>\n
Addressing youths at the 25th Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP 25) feedback meeting, the Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu, underscored the need to continue raising awareness on climate change, and implement strategies that help mitigate its effects.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the government, we are very much committed to climate action since we cannot separate the environment from the economy for the two are intertwined. We recognise that we need to leave future generations a clean, healthy and wealthy planet. A lot of work has been done by the government in efforts to climate-proof all socio-economic sectors and put in place proper policies.\u201d<\/p>\n
Youths who graced the event highlighted the importance of disseminating information on climate change to rural communities since most of them rely on rain-fed agriculture for their livelihoods.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe droughts have crippled agricultural production, and the rural communities have been the most affected. There is need to cascade what we have learnt on climate change to rural communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Minister Ndlovu also indicated that his ministry and that of agriculture will roll out a climate-smart agricultural manual for agricultural training institutions in the country, which will help promote climate and environmentally-friendly ways of farming ahead of COP 25.<\/p>\n
