Chin\u2019ono quotes former British Ambassador to Zimbabwe Catriona Laing as saying some years back:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Zimbabwe is Britain\u2019s problem and baby, we will listen to them, what they have to say is very important to us, and it forms half of what will end up happening from Western capitals regarding Zimbabwe.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mnangagwa has made a number of strategic errors that proves that he is out of his depth. He does not understand world politics, his appointments to public office are based on nepotism and not competence.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1474\" src=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/01\/Emmerson-Mnangagwa-ngwena-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/upload\/sites\/14\/2019\/01\/Emmerson-Mnangagwa-ngwena-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/upload\/sites\/14\/2019\/01\/Emmerson-Mnangagwa-ngwena.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The major problem with Mnangagwa and his team is that they have not been able to separate self from the state. They do not accept constructive criticism. They would rather have sycophants surrounding them for them to feel secure. Chin\u2019ono further opines:<\/p>\n<p>As I have often argued here, we are not yet in a new dispensation and there is NO second republic to talk of yet, folks that peddle those comical references are either sycophants driven by personal self-interest and stomach issues are they are ignorant of what a New Dispensation or the Second Republic actually means.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We have been foolishly punching above our weight on the world stage calling big countries like the US and the UK names and providing one-minute laughs when Mugabe spoke, but that has come to punish us severely and it has created a broken country and society.<\/p>\n<p>Bigger countries with bigger economies and genuine fights with the West know when to talk and how to talk to countries like the US.<\/p>\n<p>You either chose to sable rattle like what we do and go to bed on an empty stomach or engage meaningfully like what China, India, Japan and many other proper world economies do when they have serious issues of contention with the US.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 All this liberation rhetoric is a mere cover-up for a group of people who have failed to govern, all this sanctions talk reflects a group of people who have no capacity to solve problems.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwe\u2019s quest to reengage the wider international community is now hanging by a thread after the Mnangagwa administration lost the support of the British, according to renowned journalist Hopewell Chin\u2019ono.
