{"id":29585,"date":"2020-10-31T20:54:30","date_gmt":"2020-10-31T18:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=29585"},"modified":"2020-10-31T20:54:30","modified_gmt":"2020-10-31T18:54:30","slug":"cost-of-living-in-zimbabwe-rises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/cost-of-living-in-zimbabwe-rises","title":{"rendered":"Cost Of Living In Zimbabwe Rises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has reported that the total cost of living in Zimbabwe continued on an upward trend in September.<\/p>\n<p>The Agency observed that the consumption poverty line (TCPL) for a family of five rose to nearly ZWL$18 000 in September.<\/p>\n<p>Zimstat also reported that the September 2020 food poverty line (FPL) for an average of five persons in Zimbabwe stood at $7 382 translating to a 2,4% increase $7 210 recorded in August. In a statement on Wednesday, the Agency said:<\/p>\n<p>The TCPL for an average of five persons stood at $17 956,87 in September 2020. This means that an average household required that much to purchase food and non-food items for them not to be deemed poor. This represents an increase of 4,1% when compared to the August 2020 figure of $17 244,07.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of living is sadly going up when workers are complaining that the salaries they are earning are very insignificant particularly in this inflationary economy.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers who are reportedly earning around US$30 have refused to return to work since the re-opening of schools on 28 September this year.<\/p>\n<p>Government workers demand the restoration of their 2018 salaries when the majority of them earned around US$500.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has reported that the total cost of living in Zimbabwe continued on an upward trend in September.
