{"id":29710,"date":"2020-11-03T20:35:24","date_gmt":"2020-11-03T18:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=29710"},"modified":"2020-11-03T20:35:24","modified_gmt":"2020-11-03T18:35:24","slug":"zimbabwe-to-produce-own-buses-trucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/community\/zimbabwe-to-produce-own-buses-trucks","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe to produce own buses, trucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ZIMBABWE is working on revamping the manufacturing of buses and trucks locally to curb continued imports, which are contributing to a bloated import bill.<br \/>\nIndustry and Commerce Minister, Dr Sekai Nzenza, said on Friday that localising motor vehicle production was at the heart of her ministry\u2019s thrust, and should buttress provision of reliable and cheaper public transport.<\/p>\n<p>Government has recently been facilitating importation of buses from China and Belarus to beef up the Zupco fleet and Public Service Commission buses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, continued importation of these buses is not sustainable in the long run and, therefore, going forward the thrust is to manufacture local buses to reduce the import bill,\u201d said Dr Nzenza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, the main thrust in this sector will be to ensure that we support local industry to increase the supply of domestically manufactured buses and delivery trucks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will not only boost this industry but will also benefit other upstream industries that provide inputs such as bolts, batteries, steel sheets, tyres, upholstery, paint, carpet manufacturers, among others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was speaking during the ministry\u2019s strategic planning workshop, which ended in Bulawayo on Saturday.
