{"id":30026,"date":"2020-11-12T21:31:58","date_gmt":"2020-11-12T19:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=30026"},"modified":"2020-11-12T21:31:58","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T19:31:58","slug":"chinono-denied-bail-to-make-freedom-bid-at-high-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/chinono-denied-bail-to-make-freedom-bid-at-high-court","title":{"rendered":"Chin\u2019ono denied bail, to make freedom bid at high court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Magistrate Gofa dismissed Chin\u2019ono\u2019s application for bail and ruled<br \/>\nthat the award winning film-maker had a propensity to commit offences.<\/p>\n<p>and hence should be kept detained in prison.Magistrate Gofa\u2019s decision came after Chin\u2019ono\u2019s lawyers Beatrice<\/p>\n<p>Mtetwa, Gift Mtisi and Doug Coltart of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human<br \/>\nRights asked her to release the journalist from prison on bail as he<br \/>\nwould be ready to stand trial on charges of defeating or obstructing<br \/>\nthe course of justice as defined in section 184 of the Criminal Law<br \/>\n(Codification and Reform) Act.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors alleged that Chin\u2019ono posted a message on his Twitter<br \/>\naccount intending to prejudice the matter in which Zimbabwe Miners<br \/>\nFederation leader Henrietta Rushwaya is currently appearing at Harare<br \/>\nMagistrates Court on charges of smuggling gold out of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>Chin\u2019ono, prosecutors charged, created some communication lines with<br \/>\nsome unnamed National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officers and got<br \/>\nconfidential prosecutorial deliberations which he published on Twitter<br \/>\non 25 October 2020 to the effect that Rushwaya was going to be granted bail without any opposition by NPA officers.<\/p>\n<p>By claiming to be engaged in a relationship with the NPA, prosecutors<br \/>\nsaid the freelance had jeopardised the integrity of the case against<br \/>\nhimself and that of Rushwaya.
