{"id":30408,"date":"2020-11-23T19:33:33","date_gmt":"2020-11-23T17:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/nigeria-will-exit-recession-in-first-quarter-of-2021-buhari-govt-assures"},"modified":"2020-11-23T19:33:33","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T17:33:33","slug":"nigeria-will-exit-recession-in-first-quarter-of-2021-buhari-govt-assures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/nigeria-will-exit-recession-in-first-quarter-of-2021-buhari-govt-assures","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria will exit recession in first quarter of 2021 \u2013 Buhari govt assures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal Government has assured that Nigeria would exit recession in the first quarter of 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, gave the assurance at the ongoing 26th Nigerian Economic Summit organised by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, on Monday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister noted that the COVID-19 pandemic caused the current recession in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed said the current recession followed the pattern across the world where many countries had entered an economic recession due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria is not alone in this, but I will say that Nigeria has outperformed all of these economies in terms of the record of a negative growth,\u201d Ahmed said.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria had on Saturday slide into its second recession in five years.<\/p>\n<p>Figures by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Nigeria\u2019s economy had contracted by -2.48%.<\/p>\n<p>NBS had disclosed that the current recession was Nigeria\u2019s worst in decades.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
