{"id":30783,"date":"2020-12-01T20:46:46","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T18:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zimbabwes-land-borders-reopen-on-a-low-key"},"modified":"2020-12-01T20:46:46","modified_gmt":"2020-12-01T18:46:46","slug":"zimbabwes-land-borders-reopen-on-a-low-key","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zimbabwes-land-borders-reopen-on-a-low-key","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe\u2019s Land Borders Reopen On A Low Key"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Zimbabwe\u2019s land borders reopened to motorists and pedestrians this Tuesday for the first time since March but there was low activity at the country\u2019s southern borders with Botswana (Plumtree) and South Africa (Beitbridge).<\/p>\n<p>Until today, only commercial cargo, returning residents, bodies for burial and diplomats on Government business were allowed to pass through the borders under measures imposed by Harare to curb the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Herald<\/b><\/p>\n<p>reported a source saying the low volume of travellers could be attributable to people taking a wait and see attitude.<\/p>\n<p>Activity is still low. Our understanding is that most travellers could have adopted a wait and see attitude considering the rigorous screening processes relating to COVID-19 protocols.<\/p>\n<p>One border official who spoke to the media said a total of 93 travellers left the country between 6 am and 8 am while 116 entered the country from South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>A traveller who preferred not to be named complained about the US$60 testing fees being charged by most laboratories saying the government should intervene and ensure that the fees are affordable for ordinary people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
