The government has launched the urban and peri-urban Pfumvudza programme in Harare Metropolitan Province as part of efforts to ensure food security at the household level.<\/p>\n
Through the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement the government has extended the Pfumvudza programme to urban dwellers.<\/p>\n
This Wednesday saw Harare metropolitan province Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Oliver Chidawu launching the urban and peri-urban Pfumvudza programme at the ZRP Support Unit headquarters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis programme will be a game-changer for food security not only in our province but Zimbabwe as a whole. Farming is a national responsibility and as a province, we are pleased to have finally been afforded an opportunity to contribute significantly to national food production.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Harare Provincial Development Coordinator, Mr Tafadzwa Muguti, the urban Pfumvudza programme can sustain many households if implemented well.<\/p>\n
\u201c200 000 families are going to benefit from Pfumvudza. Urban dwellers were usually left behind in agricultural programmes. Everyone should benefit from the Pfumvudza plots, we don\u2019t want to see anyone selling Pfumvudza inputs.\u201d<\/p>\n
20 thousand families received seed and fertiliser at the launch.<\/p>\n
