{"id":30867,"date":"2020-12-03T23:24:10","date_gmt":"2020-12-03T21:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=30867"},"modified":"2020-12-03T23:24:10","modified_gmt":"2020-12-03T21:24:10","slug":"two-mash-east-schools-hit-by-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/two-mash-east-schools-hit-by-covid-19","title":{"rendered":"Two Mash East Schools Hit By COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Two schools in Mashonaland Province have recorded a combined 52 coronavirus cases since the reopening of schools on the 28th of September.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mashonaland East Covid-19 daily updates, a total of 24 cases of Covid-19 were recorded at Waddilove High School on Monday bringing the total number of positive cases at the school to 40 since the opening of schools.<\/p>\n<p>The reports also note that twelve positive cases were also reported at Goromonzi High School where 37 samples were collected. Reads the report:<\/p>\n<p>Waddilove and Goromonzi are now closed communities with no one allowed to get in or out.<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Child Care Ministry is working with Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to see if all non-examination classes can be sent back home under strict monitoring to de-congest the schools.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 56 students have so far been infected in Mash East since the opening of schools.<\/p>\n<p>This is happening amid increased calls for the government to close schools with stakeholders arguing that both students and teachers\u2019 lives are in danger.<\/p>\n<p>The government is adamant that schools will not be closed unless the situation goes out of hand.<\/p>\n<p>Some schools including John Tallach High, Matobo High, both in Matebeleland, Wise Owl Private School in Marondera and Chinhoyi High, have since been sealed off after students tested positive for the virus.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers\u2019 unions were against the reopening of schools saying the government had not put adequate measures in place to prevent the spread and transmission of the virus.<\/p>\n<p><b>More: The Herald<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
