{"id":31100,"date":"2020-12-10T21:08:48","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T19:08:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=31100"},"modified":"2020-12-10T21:08:48","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T19:08:48","slug":"zacc-blitz-recovers-us4-million-501-top-of-the-range-cars-from-corrupt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zacc-blitz-recovers-us4-million-501-top-of-the-range-cars-from-corrupt","title":{"rendered":"ZACC Blitz Recovers US$4 Million, 501 Top-Of-The-Range Cars From Corrupt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span><b>By Robert Tapfumaneyi<\/b> &#8211; THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has seized property worth US$4.8 million and 510 top of the range vehicles during a joint operation with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).<\/p>\n<p>ZACC chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo told journalists Wednesday that its success in combating corruption not only lies in the incarceration of accused persons but should include the recovery of ill-gotten wealth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong its high-profile matters, the commission arrested two sitting government ministers on allegations of corruption and money laundering to the value of US$95 million,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commission has also seized 27 vehicles and 3 properties under investigations. The Commission as submitted eight applications for unexplained wealth orders with the High Court of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commission has started tracing assets in South Africa, UK, UAE, Malaysia, Mauritius and Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the inception of the fourth Commission in July 2019, there have been 10 criminal convictions on corruption cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matanda-Moyo added, \u201cEight vehicles valued at US$160 000 were confiscated and forfeited to the State and ZWL$8 million and USD330 000 was recovered from unpaid Customs and Exercise duty through a joint operation with ZIMRA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year the Commission has so far submitted 87 dockets for prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To further enhance synergies with other Anti-Corruption Agencies in the region, ZACC took a step further to sign two Memoranda of Understanding on Cooperation in Combating Corruption and Economic Crime with Anti-Commission of Zambia and the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime of Botswana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese MOUs will include cooperation on joint investigations, assets recovery, skills enhancement and extradition among others,\u201d Moyo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZimbabwe as a member of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Mont Laundering Group ESAAMLG) and Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network for Southern Africa (ARINSA) is making great strides to ensure measures that guarantee maximum cooperation is given to States Parties during requests for extradition processes and the return of stolen assets.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
