{"id":31845,"date":"2020-12-29T21:39:44","date_gmt":"2020-12-29T19:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=31845"},"modified":"2020-12-29T19:12:57","modified_gmt":"2020-12-29T17:12:57","slug":"cylone-chalane-will-bring-continuous-rains-msd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/cylone-chalane-will-bring-continuous-rains-msd","title":{"rendered":"Cylone Chalane Will Bring Continuous Rains \u2013 MSD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Cyclone Chalane which made landfall in Madagascar and is already on the Mozambican channel is expected to bring a heavy downpour of rainfall above 50 mm in 24 hours in some areas of Zimbabwe, The Herald reports.<\/p>\n<p>The downpour is expected to hit Zimbabwe starting tomorrow till Friday and it is expected to cause flash flooding in areas with poor drainage.<\/p>\n<p>A statement released by the department said:<\/p>\n<p>Flash flooding in areas of poor drainage as well as along river basins plus mudslides and landslides as well as collapse of walls, due to excessive moisture, remain probable.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Chalane entered warmer water of the Mozambique Channel where it is expected to re-intensify into a tropical storm similar to Cyclone Dineo. The system should sweep across the country from Wednesday into the New Year.<\/p>\n<p>This should give continuous rain over much of the country, with localised heavier downpours (in excess of 50 mm in 24 hours) probable especially over high ground, areas along the main watershed into the Eastern Highlands.These rains should ease off as we get into the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The government has announced schools and centers that will be used as evacuation centers for people in lower areas in Chimanimani which might be hit by the cyclone this week.<\/p>\n<p>More: The Herald<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
