Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>By Staff Reporter<\/b> – UNDERPRIVILEGED kids at Chiedza Children\u2019s Home in Harare had something to smile about on New Year\u2019s Day after Diaspora Insurance through Philadelphia Trust donated goodies worth over Z$55,000.00<\/p>\n

Over 35 children each received groceries that included a 10kg bag of maize meal, cooking oil, soap, sugar and rice amongst many other products.<\/p>\n

The company also donated groceries to other charity organisations in other Zimbabwe provinces and in South Africa and Zambia.<\/p>\n

Diaspora Insurance are the providers of the bespoke Diaspora Funeral Cash Plan covering people in the diaspora and their families back home which covers 13 African countries.<\/p>\n

After a tough 2020 characterised by the Covid-19 lockdown, guardians of the children were all smiles as they received the donations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to thank everyone involved in this programme. We were not expecting to get such a large consignment of groceries at a time we are battling to fight Covid-19 and also high prices of goods in our shops,\u201d said Cecilia Mutihwana, one of the guardians at the children\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings are really difficult, but we have to show gratitude to our friends and families who have remembered us and hope they will not forget us as we go forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Tolakele Nyika, the Diaspora Insurance Zimbabwe representative, ahead of the festive season, the UK-based Diaspora Insurance requested its clients to nominate local charities that were eligible to receive donations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have grown exponentially into a multi-million US$ company over the past few years and we want to thank our clients and help the need in our communities.\u201d, she explained.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia Trust which is run by Ms Spiwe Chikawa was nominated by Mr Irvin Shangwa based in UK and they won the live raffle for Harare & Mashonaland region. Philadelphia Trust opted to handout the goodies through Chiedza Children\u2019s Home in Ardbennie, Harare. Harare socialite Madam Boss presented the donations to the children.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to thank them for this shot in the arm because we have been struggling as a result of Covid-19. Even if you check the groceries we have received, they offer a balanced diet which we are all encouraged to consume,\u201d said Eric Mask who is a guardian at the children\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay Diaspora Insurance continue on this path, and may they receive more than they have given to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Humphrey Willis, who has two grandchildren at the home added: \u201cBeing a grandmother looking after orphans, this is just something else. It is awesome and I would like to thank the givers from the bottom of my heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been a very difficult year. Some of us did not know, and we had no direction. This gives us hope and we can just say at least we have enough provisions to carry us through until who knows when.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
