Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has suspended four senior police officers from police duties for failing to stop the Mbare New Year\u2019s Eve music concert hosted by DJ Fantan.<\/p>\n

The four are Superintendent Innocent Makumbe, Inspector Garikai Jiyane [Officer in Charge, Matapi], Inspector Peace Nyarai Gunhe [Duty Officer] and Assistant Inspector Vengai Mupamhanga [Duty Member].<\/p>\n

In a statement on Monday, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the four have been suspended from duty by the Commissioner-General of Police Godwin Matanga pending disciplinary action. The statement read:<\/p>\n

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that Superintendent Innocent Makumbe, Inspector Garikai Jiyane [Officer in Charge, Matapi], Inspector Peace Nyarai Gunhe [Duty Officer] and Assistant Inspector Vengai Mupamhanga [Duty Member] have been suspended from Police duties by Commissioner General of Police pending disciplinary action.<\/p>\n

Investigations conducted have revealed that the senior officer and junior members did not perform their duties according to Police set standards and Government\u2019s Covid-19 regulations in handling the illegal Mbare musical bash held by DJ Fantan and his associates on 31st December 2020.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Nyathi said police were keen on interviewing DJ Fantan over the gig which was held in violation of the curfew order and coronavirus regulations. It has not yet been confirmed if Fantan, who was reportedly on the run, has surrendered himself to police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
