Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>WhatsApp Is currently witnessing a mass exodus of privacy concerned users after it released an in-app notification forcing users to accept its revised Privacy Policy by 08 February 2021 or stop using its service entirely.<\/b><\/p>\n

The new privacy policy confirms that Facebook may now have access to messages shared with businesses on WhatsApp and it provides more insight into expansive metadata collection by WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

This is a departure from the company\u2019s 2014 privacy policy when Facebook acquired the cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP service as shall be indicated below.<\/p>\n

HOW IT STARTED: WhatsApp in 2014 said:<\/b><\/p>\n

If partnering with Facebook meant that we had to change our values. we wouldn\u2019t have done it. Instead, we are forming a partnership that would allow us to continue operating independently and autonomously. Our fundamental values and beliefs will not change. Our principles will not change\u2026 Speculation to the contrary isn\u2019t just baseless and unfounded, it\u2019s irresponsible. It has the effect of scaring people into thinking we\u2019re suddenly collecting all kinds of new data. Thai\u2019s just not true, and it\u2019s important to us that you know that.<\/p>\n

HOW IT\u2019S GOING: WhatsApp Today<\/b><\/p>\n

The information we share with the other Facebook Companies includes your account registration information (such as your phone number), transaction data, service-related information, information on how you interact with others (including businesses) when using our Services. mobile device information, your IP address, and may include other information identified in the Privacy Policy section entitled \u2018Information We Collect\u2019 or obtained upon notice to you or based on your consent.<\/p>\n

The WhatsApp policy states that Facebook will use this information for \u201cunderstanding how our services or theirs are used,\u201d \u201cimproving their services,\u201d \u201cmaking suggestions for you,\u201d \u201cpersonalizing features and content,\u201d and \u201cshowing relevant offers and ads across the Facebook Company Products.\u201d<\/p>\n
