{"id":32671,"date":"2021-01-13T20:20:42","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T18:20:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=32671"},"modified":"2021-01-13T19:03:57","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T17:03:57","slug":"sternford-moyo-becomes-first-iba-president-of-african-descent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/sternford-moyo-becomes-first-iba-president-of-african-descent","title":{"rendered":"Sternford Moyo Becomes First IBA President Of African Descent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A Zimbabwean lawyer, Sternford Moyo has become the first President of the International Bar Association (IBA) of African descent.<\/p>\n<p>Moyo succeeds Brazil\u2019s Horacio Bernardes Neto with a two-year tenure through to 31 December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Moyo is a corporate lawyer and senior partner of Harare practice Scanlen &amp; Holderness.<\/p>\n<p>He has held numerous senior IBA roles, including council member, management board member, advisory board member and chair of the African Regional Forum, deputy Secretary-General for Southern Africa, co-chair of the Human Rights Institute IBAHRI, trustee of IBA-established entities such as the Southern Africa Litigation Centre and eyeWitness to Atrocities, and member of the Task Force on Illicit Financial Flows, Poverty &amp; Human Rights.<\/p>\n<p>Moyo has also been a bar leader in Zimbabwe and in Southern Africa, and corporate leader in mining, manufacturing, financial services and leadership development.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the IBA\u2019s new Vice President is Almudena Arp\u00f3n de Mend\u00edvil, a partner with Spanish law firm G\u00f3mez-Acebo &amp; Pombo, where she leads the Corporate Technology, Media &amp; Telecommunications group.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
