{"id":3288,"date":"2019-02-07T13:45:22","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T13:45:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=3288"},"modified":"2019-02-07T13:45:22","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T13:45:22","slug":"court-to-rule-on-mugabes-potato-wrangle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/court-to-rule-on-mugabes-potato-wrangle","title":{"rendered":"Court to rule on Mugabe\u2019s potato wrangle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dispute between former President Robert Mugabe\u2019s family business, Gushungo Holdings and Seed Potato Co-op (Pvt) Ltd, is set to be resolved today at the High Court where the two parties will appear before Justice Helena Charehwa.<span id=\"more-3096224744013213\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The seed company last year obtained a default judgment against Mugabe\u2019s business on a case involving $174 183, which Gushungo is challenging.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1553\" src=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/01\/48-1-660x330-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/upload\/sites\/14\/2019\/01\/48-1-660x330-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/upload\/sites\/14\/2019\/01\/48-1-660x330.jpg 660w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In another matter, Gushungo petitioned the court claiming $712 530 compensation from Seed Potato, accusing the company of selling substandard seeds contrary to the parties\u2019 agreement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-2048803451\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent\">\n<p>According to court papers, the former Head of State\u2019s business was on July 2, 2018 slapped with a $174 183 default judgement after failing to defend the litigation that was instituted by the seed company in May last year.<\/p>\n<p>But through Gushungo Holdings\u2019 representative, one Farai Jemwa, Mugabe\u2019s business claims it never received the summons save to read about the issue in the Press, adding it later turned out that the said court papers had been served on a person not employed by the former First Family\u2019s business.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\"><\/div>\n<p>The default judgment was granted by Justice Joseph Musakwa.<\/p>\n<p>In its own claim, the seed company said sometime between July and September 2015, it supplied Gushungo Holdings with 12 761 pockets of seed potato worth $382 830 of which Mugabe\u2019s firm made part payment, leaving a balance of $174 193.<\/p>\n<p>In a different, but related matter Gushungo Holdings, however, sued the seed firm claiming compensation on the basis that the company had sold them substandard seeds.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-1634970601\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent-250\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The dispute between former President Robert Mugabe\u2019s family business, Gushungo Holdings and Seed Potato Co-op (Pvt) Ltd, is set to be resolved today at the High Court where the two parties will appear before Justice Helena Charehwa.
