Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Hwange Local Board (HLB) intends to convert its abandoned bus terminus in Empumalanga suburb into a vending site.<\/p>\n

HLB town secretary Ndumiso Mdlalose revealed that the bus terminus will be fitted with proper vending bays and also the ablution facilities will be refurbished to enable registered vendors to conduct their business in a conducive environment. Said Mdlalose:<\/p>\n

We intend to turn the bus terminus into a proper marketplace with vending bays. We have realised that the terminus is no longer serving its intended purpose, thus the reason we are seeking to utilise the infrastructure for a more viable activity.<\/p>\n

Elton Mguni, a long-serving vegetable vendor with more than 20 years in the trade in the town welcomed the development. He said:<\/p>\n

We are quite grateful the council is considering turning this terminus into a vending site, it seems they are taking long to put up proper facilities for us to operate from.<\/p>\n

The infrastructure at the bus station especially the toilets are in bad shape as they were neglected for years and there has been vandalism by the residents.<\/p>\n

The in Empumalanga suburb bus terminus was constructed in the 1980s for buses and kombis.<\/p>\n

However, vehicular traffic at the site has been dwindling over the past few years as commuters now prefer to ride on private vehicles popularly known as mushikashikas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
