Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Footballers\u2019 Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) has said the continued ban of local football has put the present and future well-being of players in limbo.<\/p>\n

The government banned all football activities in March last year in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n

While some leagues across Africa, notably South Africa and Tanzania have resumed, the Zimbabwe Football Association and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) failed to put in place a bio-secure bubble for the game to return.<\/p>\n

FUZ secretary-general, Thomas Sweswe, told the Daily News on Friday that this has left footballers in limbo. Sweswe said:<\/p>\n

At the moment, most players and coaches are in limbo as they do not know what the future holds for them.<\/p>\n

For some, their contracts have expired and they don\u2019t know where they stand as they have families to take care of and rentals to pay.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s difficult for players at the moment because clubs are also not sure when and if the game will eventually resume.<\/p>\n

Sweswe, a former Dynamos and Kaizer Chiefs Defender, said due to more than 10 months of inaction, players have resorted to unorthodox means for survival, such as \u201cmoney games\u201d. He said:<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, some players are risking their careers and lives by playing in money games so that they can get something to survive.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a very tight situation, players are not sure of their futures and they are putting a lot at risk by engaging in such unsanctioned games.<\/p>\n

Our hope is that a solution is found soon and at the end of the day, football must return so that players can be able to take care of their families.<\/p>\n

Reigning PSL champions, FC Platinum (FCP) are the only club allowed to train as they represented Zimbabwe in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League tournament.<\/p>\n

Following their defeat at the hands of Tanzania\u2019s Simba Sports Club, FCP will now take part in the CAF Confederations Cup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
