Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Renowned health expert Professor Solwayo Ngwenya has admonished members of the public to critically analyse the information they hear about COVID-19 to avoid falling victim to fake news and end up contracting the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n

He said it is every citizen\u2019s responsibility to make sure that they are not infected and to not get excited when lockdowns are relaxed as they can result in another wave of infections. Said Prof Ngwenya:<\/p>\n

\u2026 there is so much misinformation, false promises of a cure, a false sense of defeating the virus, in the confusion people are still dying (no one can manipulate deaths, fortunately). It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not get infected. Absolutely critical!<\/p>\n

Please do not let your guard down, do not rush to open your businesses, you will die and leave them behind. We are at war with the virus. Do not be excited about the relaxation of lockdowns, concentrate on your life. Do not just believe anything shown to you. Critically analyse facts<\/p>\n

Seeing the burial of other people doesn\u2019t mean that you have survived. Next week it could be you, there is nothing special about you, you breathe the same air. Don\u2019t become part of the statistics. Be alert, agile, 2 footed, and never be easily fooled or brainwashed.<\/p>\n

Prof Ngwenya said it is imperative for people to avoid unnecessary social gatherings such as weddings and parties which can easily turn out to be superspreader events. He added:<\/p>\n

Your life is far more important than your business, school, partying, beer, hanging around with friends, enjoying prayer in groups, weddings, and dancing. You live only once. Once you are permanently buried all these things will not be there. Think deep.<\/p>\n

Please protect our innocent health workers that will have no choice but to attend to you when you are very sick, risking their own lives. Protect our healthcare facilities so that they are not overwhelmed.<\/p>\n

\u2026 There will be new deadlier waves ahead, and this time it could be you and me to be hurriedly buried.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe\u2019s cumulative COVID-19 cases reached 34 331 on Friday, 5 February 2021. 28 145 recoveries and 1 303 deaths have also been recorded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
