{"id":34639,"date":"2021-02-11T20:59:52","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T18:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=34639"},"modified":"2021-02-11T20:59:52","modified_gmt":"2021-02-11T18:59:52","slug":"zesas-hwange-power-station-gutted-by-fire-lost-140mw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zesas-hwange-power-station-gutted-by-fire-lost-140mw","title":{"rendered":"ZESA\u2019s Hwange Power Station Gutted By Fire, Lost 140MW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press-Zimbabwe:<\/p>\n<p>THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) lost 140MW from the national grid after Hwange Power Station caught fire on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Sydney Gata, the fire resulted in load-shedding in some parts of the country as efforts were being made to restore power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZESA Holdings wishes to advise its valued stakeholders that one of the units at Hwange Power Station caught fire around 1700hrs this evening (Wednesday).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fire broke out in the Unit 1 boiler as a result of a leak in the diesel supply fuel line and lasted for about 40 minutes. There were no casualties arising from the fire,\u201d said Gata.<\/p>\n<p>The ZESA chairperson added: \u201cWe lost 140MW leading to load shedding between 1730hrs and 2030hrs due to suspension of load on units 2 and 5. We are in the process of firing the two units to restore power supply to the national grid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNormal supply is expected to resume on Thursday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hwange Power Station is country\u2019s largest thermal power station.<\/p>\n<p>Energy Minister Zhemu Soda also confirmed the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI received the report from Dr. Gata.
