Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader, Lovemore Madhuku, says President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s so-called new dispensation has adopted the late former President Robert Mugabe\u2019s disregard for human rights.<\/p>\n

Madhuku argued that under Mugabe, human rights were considered a preserve of the majority while the minority were routinely persecuted for being critical of the government and this has been perpetuated by the Mnangagwa administration. Said Madhuku:<\/p>\n

It is a real notion which Mnangagwa has carried on, which says that if the majority is quiet, then we will beat you (the minority) up, we will arrest you.<\/p>\n

I think the government is mistaken there, and this is coming from President Robert Mugabe\u2019s legacy, which says if the majority are not complaining (you are observing human rights). You are (only) three or four people complaining.<\/p>\n

Mugabe was ousted from office by the military in a popular coup in November 2017 and died two years later in a Singapore hospital where he was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.<\/p>\n

Western powers imposed sanctions on Mugabe and his inner circle at the turn of the Millenium for egregious human rights abuses.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, several top officials in Mnangagwa\u2019s government and controversial businessmen linked to the government have also been slapped with sanctions.<\/p>\n
