Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said it is hunting for a Chinhoyi man, Tinashe Zhengeni who is on the run after 225 rounds of ammunition were discovered at his residence on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi told the Daily News on Sunday that the hunting was launched after a tip-off and 225 rounds of ammunition were discovered but the suspect had gone. He said:<\/p>\n

We received a tip-off that there was a suspect with two firearms an AK 47 and an FN at his apartment in Ruvimbo, Phase 2, Chinhoyi. We sent our team from CID, Canine, and Support Unit there.<\/p>\n

When our team got there they discovered that the suspect was a tenant at the residence and had been staying there for a year now. We did not discover the guns but 225 rounds of ammunition which were in a track bottom.<\/p>\n

We are yet to arrest the suspect and appeal to members of the public to give us any information that may assist to locate him and bring him to book.<\/p>\n

Nyathi warned members of the public who illegally possess firearms, adding that offenders would face the wrath of the law.<\/p>\n

This comes at the backdrop of a surge in the number of reported armed robberies around the country where live ammunition is being used.<\/p>\n

Recently, it was reported that armed robbers pounced on two service stations in Bulawayo, bound attendants, sold fuel for three hours, collected the money and disappeared.<\/p>\n

Fears abound that lawlessness will rise if the government does not take stern measures before it is too late.<\/p>\n
