Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The People\u2019s Republic of China has made yet another donation of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to Zimbabwe to shoot the total donation made so far to 400 000 doses (Sinopharm 200 000 and Sinovac 200 000).<\/p>\n

For the first time, the country takes receipt of Sinovac.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s consignment includes medical supplies such as syringes and other accessories required during deployment of the vaccine to different parts of the country including rural areas.<\/p>\n

The donation was announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa this Tuesday as he officially received the second batch of the Sinopharm vaccine that was ferried by Air Zimbabwe from China.<\/p>\n

Air Zimbabwe landed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. The first batch arrived in February.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe still awaits 75 000 doses of the inactivated Covaxin from India and another donation of 20 000 doses of Sputnik V (Victory) vaccine from Russia and an unknown amount of doses of the United Kingdom\u2019s AstraZeneca soon.<\/p>\n

The government has set aside US$100 million for the procurement of vaccines.<\/p>\n

While all the vaccines in the world have not been assessed thoroughly because of the timeframe at the disposal of scientists, the World Health Organisation says the vaccines administered so far have been safe for humans.<\/p>\n

The United Nations agency last week said there was no need to suspend or ban the use of some vaccines as no side effects had been noted, yet.<\/p>\n

The WHO was speaking at the backdrop of some countries suspending the use of the UK\u2019s AstraZeneca after reports of severe \u201cblood clots\u201d among some of the people who had taken the jab of the vaccination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
