Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Former MDC Alliance official, Trace Mutinhiri has said she rejoined ZANU PF after noticing the main opposition was \u201ca white man\u2019s party\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mutinhiri who is also the former Labour and Social Welfare minister recently rejoined Zanu PF and claims she made the decision because of ZANU PF\u2019s ideology that seeks to champion the interests of the African man.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters, Mutinhiri said:<\/p>\n

When I was an MDC official, I discovered that it is a white man\u2019s party which will destroy the gains of the liberation struggle, if given a chance.<\/p>\n

Therefore, we must all unite ourselves in Zanu PF to defend our independence and our sovereignty.<\/p>\n

We want everyone to come back to Zanu PF. There is nothing in MDC. It\u2019s a white man\u2019s agenda where blacks are just used to serve the interests of white people without benefiting anything.<\/p>\n

What motivated me to come back is that Zanu PF is a party with ideology. I would want to be part of President Mnangagwa\u2019s New Dispensation which has brought economic reforms. The Second Republic is saying Zimbabwe is open for business and indeed it is open for business. It is for that reason that I want to join my comrades and continue defending the revolution.<\/p>\n

The New Dispensation is a success, which is why you see a lot of people coming back to Zanu PF. No one wants to be associated with failure. I have come back home with valuable strategies that will help my party.<\/p>\n

She suggested that more MDC officials were inquiring if they could also \u201crejoin the revolutionary party.\u201d She added:<\/p>\n

Once upon a time in 1980, everybody was Zanu PF and we want to take advantage of that and regroup as Zanu PF. We want to join President Mnangagwa in rebuilding our economy and strengthening our sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Mutinhiri contested for the MDC Alliance vice president post in 2019 and lost to Karenyi-Kore.<\/p>\n

Her defection comes after opposition MDC Alliance deputy treasurer Lillian Timveos who also contested for the party\u2019s VP post and Blessing Chebundo also dumped the Nelson Chamisa-led opposition to join Zanu PF.<\/p>\n

Last year, the former deputy Youth Minister and former MP Tongai Matutu also left MDC Alliance to join Zanu PF.<\/p>\n

Remarks by Mutinhiri are in resonance with those of the ruling party that has since 1999 when the MDC was formed been saying the opposition party was a project by the white man formed for the purposes of reversing the gains of the liberation struggle.<\/p>\n

Some analysts say the defectors are only after money while some are urging Chamisa to address the issues that are being identified by members to avoid a worse-off scenario.<\/p>\n
