Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has opened up about how former coach Giovanni Solinas\u2019 tactics almost destroyed Khama Billiat\u2019s performance on the field.<\/p>\n
The gaffer was sacked in early December following a string of unconvincing results during his four-month reign at the Soweto Giants. He was replaced by German coach Ernst Middendorp.<\/p>\n
In an interview with The Citizen, 30-year-old Cardoso said Solinas almost destroyed Billiat as he made him the \u201cMessi\u201d of South African football, thus putting him under immense pressure.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think he (Solinas) had much of a plan. We\u2019d be on the training grounds for three hours running against mannequins \u2013 there was no structure,\u201d said Cardoso.<\/p>\n
\u201cKhama was the \u2018Messi\u2019 of South Africa for Solinas. And I think that got to him (Khama) as well and he thought he was the greatest\u2026 look Khama is a great striker, don\u2019t get me wrong but you can see we went through a deep in form and he is now trying to recover. I think it was a case of giving too much confidence to one player and nothing to others.<\/p>\n
Cardoso believes the pressure on Khama Billiat came after Solinas gave the player too many praises.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t put it all on one player\u2019s shoulders, it\u2019s a team. We are not playing tennis or chess, it\u2019s a team sport, unfortunately. For us we couldn\u2019t question him, he was the head coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut bowing down to a player in front of the crowds and other players, it gives him more pressure because he knows he has to perform in every game and it\u2019s not every day that you can perform something, it can\u2019t happen,\u201d added Cardoso.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
