Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Civil servants said that they do not know when salary negotiations with their employer will resume.<\/p>\n

Government representatives and civil servants last met over a month ago and failed to agree on the way forward.<\/p>\n

The Government offered a 75% staggered salary increment from April to June this year which the employees rejected, insisting on US$540 or its equivalent in Zimbabwean Dollars.<\/p>\n

Civil servants, particularly teachers, have claimed incapacitation and are reporting for duty twice a week.<\/p>\n

Speaking to ZTN on Tuesday, Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU) spokesperson Gibson Mushangu said:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s now been over a month. They had promised to consult as a team of negotiators from Government so that we can have our third meeting but hitherto we haven\u2019t engaged the Government or had any meeting with it.<\/p>\n

We are worried that our salaries are being seriously eroded. We are not sure whether the government is prepared to meet us again or it is pleased with the status quo.<\/p>\n

says Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima was not immediately available for comment as his mobile phone was not being answered.<\/p>\n

This comes after scores of doctors and nurses are reported to be leaving Bulawayo hospitals and other health institutions citing poor salaries.<\/p>\n

Over 140 health caregivers have resigned from Bulawayo\u2019s central hospitals, a development that has compromised service delivery.<\/p>\n

Most of these healthcare workers are said to be leaving for the UK which recently embarked on massive recruitment in the face of COVID-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
