Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Zimbabwe\u2019s main opposition party, the MDC Alliance (MDC-A) led by Nelson Chamisa is confident of electoral victory in 2023, saying it has made inroads in the rural areas that are traditionally considered as ZANU PF strongholds.<\/p>\n

In a communique issued after its national executive council (NEC) meeting, the MDC-A said it had managed to attract the rural populace through the party\u2019s Zimbabwe agenda 2021 which is targeting six million voters for the 2023 elections. The communique read:<\/p>\n

The national executive council (NEC) noted the significant progress that has been made so far in implementing agenda 2021.<\/p>\n

The agenda has gathered momentum throughout all provinces in Zimbabwe. The enthusiasm both in rural and urban dwellers on the need for convergence is encouraging. Citizens are mobilising to win Zimbabwe for change.<\/p>\n

The people\u2019s party is on the move. It\u2019s getting stronger by the day. There is a stampede among ordinary people to buy party cards and become party members.<\/p>\n

The party is accelerating its membership drive in recruiting and mobilising for victory.<\/p>\n

The six million registered voter target is getting close to being achieved.<\/p>\n

However, ZANU PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo scoffed at what he described as MDC-A \u2018s wishful thinking. Said Moyo:<\/p>\n

That\u2019s wishful thinking and all I can say is that it\u2019s wishful thought. As for the election as a party, we want free and peaceful elections and we wish them to do the same.<\/p>\n

As for penetrating our stronghold, that\u2019s wishful thinking. We wish them good luck in the elections.<\/p>\n

However, they should not stay too long in their wishful thinking. If wishes were horses, beggars would certainly ride.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
